Could you have a Role in working for a Better Future for Market Rasen?

What is MRDT? (Market Rasen Development Trust)

MRDT was set up in 2001 to bring together the different groups in the area to obtain funds to develop and regenerate the town. The primary purpose of the Trust is to improve local amenities and the quality of life generally in the Market Rasen area. Constituted as a limited, charitable company, it has a board of Directors and a membership from interested people in the local community.

"None of us are experts; none of us are professionals; we are still learning and we are all volunteers."

These days, to get government or European money it is often a requirement that partnerships are formed and that a "matching" sum of money is found in the local community.

The MRDT board meets once a month and its various sub committees dealing with different aspects of regeneration meet by arrangement with their members.

What About You?

    If you ........

  • Live within the parishes of Market Rasen and Middle Rasen.
  • Have an interest in the development and welfare of the town and its people.
  • Have the time and commitment to give to one or more project as a volunteer.
  • ....... We would very much like to hear from you!

What is the application procedure?

In the first instance you should contact the secretary of the board, Sylvia Jones: 01673843438 and ask for an application form. This straightforward document simply asks for contact details and gives you an opportunity to state an area of interest or skill. It also asks you to provide a reference which should be by a local person, preferably of some standing in the community, who feels able to vouch for you as a person of integrity, willing and able to give time to the work of the Trust.

You may then be invited to come along to sit in and observe the next board meeting. If you feel comfortable in continuing with your application you will be asked to make a short statement as to why you are seeking to join the Trust. Board members may wish to ask you in a friendly way about your interests and how you feel you can help. The board will look at your application at the next available meeting to evaluate how you can assist the Trust. If all parties concerned (including yourself) are still comfortable with your application, the Board may invite you to take up a position on the Board or one of its sub committees by co-option. This appointment would normally be confirmed at the next AGM.

What Happens Next?

Most of us have found that working with MRDT has meant taking in a lot of new information - a steep learning curve! As soon after co-option as possible we would offer you an evening's induction course designed to help you understand all the new terms and procedures. We also would want you to benefit from any other training arranged.

Thank you for offering you help to the town and local area through MRDT. We do hope you will go forward with your application.
